Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry # 1)

Title: Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry # 1)
Author: Simone Elkeles
Rating: 5/5
Summary:When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created “perfect” life is about to unravel before her eyes. She’s forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for—her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect.

Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more.

In a passionate story about looking beneath the surface, Simone Elkeles breaks through the stereotypes and barriers that threaten to keep Brittany and Alex apart.

My Thoughts: Outstanding! If I had to, I would describe this story as Pretty in Pink meets West Side Story. Both of the main characters, Alex Fuentes and Brittany Ellis, deal with real-life issues that make the plot surreal. Alex grew upon the wrong side of the tracks, and has absolutely no intention of going to college. Brittany is head cheerleader, blonde, and girlfriend of the basketball star, Sean. But they don’t realize how similar they are, even if they do live on opposite sides of town, as they both are living lives they don’t want, conforming to the stereotypes they believe they should be. Fate intervenes, and during chemistry class, their teacher teams Alex and Brittany as lab partners for the duration of their senior year. I don't want to give any more deets, or it will ruin the book! I hope all of you pick this one up the second you get a chance, it's well worth your time.
